The American president John F. Kennedy compared the omnipresent threat of nuclear annihilation to a sword of Damocles hanging over the people of the world. He was talking about nuclear weapons. Today, one spent fuel pool at one reactor contains more Cesium than ALL the nuclear weapons tests ever conducted. When (not if) we go we will take 30 MILLION species with us. Way to go "humanity"!

I have been watching Oliver Stone's "Untold History of the USA" on showtime series. His thesis throughout is that if Henry Wallace had become prez instead of Truman, there would have been no need for using atomic bombs and the cold war wouldn't have happened. Wallace wanted to make peace in 1945 with the Soviets even before John Kennedy did. It is a fascinating new twist on history from Stone that we never hear in the MSM.
