All,
The film, "9/11 Mysteries", and its producer, Sofia, are under attack by Rick Siegel for alleged infringement of copyright. As Sofia explains here, his real beef is with his partners, who granted Sofia permission to use a few minutes of footage that he had taken from Hoboken. I have been following this case as it has developed and, in my opinion, the suit is utterly without merit. I believe that we, as members of the 9/11 community, should do everything we can to support one another in times of need. That time, for Sofia, is NOW! Do what you can.
With appreciation,
Jim

Subject: "911 Mysteries" in trouble
Many of you have heard that Rick Siegel "is suing 911 Mysteries for copyright infringement" -- a rumor Rick began circulating in 2007 on forums and his various websites. Rick spent a good two years trashing "911 Mysteries" and slandering Sofia on the Internet, in spite of the permission she had gotten from his partners, who were published joint-copyright holders in the film "911 Eyewitness" -- which was based on footage Rick shot from Hoboken, New Jersey on September 11, 2001.
Having filled the Internet with defamatory posts, Siegel then got a very well-regarded Chicago law firm to file a lawsuit in federal court charging Sofia with having stolen his footage (which amount of footage falls well within the fair-use provisions even if she had NOT obtained permission). Siegel now wants to take this all the way to a jury trial. The cost of defending "911 Mysteries" would be very, very high if taken this far -- and this may be an effort to create such an ordeal for Sofia that she will never even think of producing a film again!
PLEASE READ MORE ABOUT THIS at www.911Mysteries.com.
Siegel's claim is not only without merit, but he is ignoring the fact that his real dispute is with his own partners. It's like the story of the man who was walking down the street at night and came upon another man on his hands and knees, searching fervently along the sidewalk. The first man said, "Have you lost something?" The second man said, "Yes, I've lost my keys!" The first man said, "Let me help you find them," and he too got down to look for the lost keys. They both searched several feet in all directions without success. The first man then asked, "Are you sure you dropped them here?" The second man answered, "No. Actually I dropped them back there -- in the dark -- but the light is much better over here."
Is the heat or spotlight being put on "911 Mysteries" for being such a convincing film? Please help by donating to legal defense at www.911WeKnow.com or www.911Mysteries.com!
Spread the word, throw in whatever you can afford ... EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS. This may not be a "private dispute" between two people, as some may perceive it. It may literally be a battle between dark and light ... a situation becoming familiar to us all.
Thank you!
Sofia
