I am not a chemist, but Chuck is an expert in chemistry, so this thermate explanation for the strange toasted car phenomena strikes me as much more likely explanation than Judy Wood's Hutch effect explanation.  I mean there were dusty clouds all over Manhatten that morning and if they were laden with thermate, it would ooze into every nook and cranny of every object it settled over, and chemically react with certain materials to produce certain effects that Chuck is describing in detail.
